Former Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers will make his first NFL start for the Miami Dolphins on Sunday against the Bengals.
Miami was eliminated from playoff contention this past week 28-15 against Pittsburgh. Starting QB Tua Tagovailoa went 6 of 10 for 65 yards with one interception in three quarters. Tagovailoa is struggling this season with a career-high and NFL-leading 15 interceptions in 14 games.
Ewers was picked by Miami in the seventh round of this year’s NFL Draft.
He played one season at Ohio State and three with the Texas Longhorns.
During his two years in Austin, Ewers posted a 21-5 record and led UT to the playoffs in back-to-back years. In three years overall at the college level, Ewers completed 65% of his passes for over 9,100 yards and 68 touchdowns.
Ewers was the #1 high school recruit after reclassifying to the 2021 class.
While in Southlake, Ewers was an All-American that amassed 6,500 yards passing and 73 touchdowns against only eight interceptions and completed 70% of his passes. He also rushed for 12 TDs in 22 career games for Riley Dodge and the Dragons. He led Carroll to the state championship game during the 2020 season.
Ewers sister Teddy Raye is a standout volleyball player at Carroll and is coming off a state championship in November – the program’s first title.
“It’s a dream come true. I’ve always wanted the opportunity to play in the NFL and for that to be coming is truly a blessing — and I’m thankful for the opportunity.”
