Running back Davis Penn rushed for 160 yards and Southlake Carroll went over 500 yards offense as the Dragons defeated Guyer in the Class 6A D2 Region 1 Championship for the second straight year, 51-19 on Saturday at Crowley ISD Stadium.

#1 Carroll moves to 14-0 this season.

In eight seasons under head coach Riley Dodge, Carroll has reached the state semifinals five times, including three straight. The Dragons played in the 6A D2 championship game last season, but fell short against Austin Vandegrift. Carroll is looking for its first title since 2011.

Angelo Renda threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Penn scored one touchdown while Brooks Biggers rushed for two. Parker Harris, the star of the game last week against Prosper, added one rushing touchdown.

Renda connected with receivers Brock Boyd (3-116) and Luc Jacquemard (39-1) for Carroll scores.

Guyer star running back Kaedyn Cobbs rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown. His only touchdown came on Guyer’s first possession. The Wildcats forced a punt and blocked Carroll’s attempt. Then Cobbs scored from 6 yards out. The extra point was missed as Guyer led 6-0.

Carter Morgan scored from 40 yards to give Guyer a 13-7 lead midway through the first quarter. Carroll answered by scoring 38 straight points. A fumble return for a touchdown by Crawford Taylor gave Carroll a 45-13 lead in the fourth quarter.
