One of DFW’s best volleyball players all-time is coming back home. Colleyville Heritage’s Suli Davis announced that she will be leaving BYU after one season to join the roster at SMU.
“I’m coming home. So grateful for the coaches and all the love, support and belief they’ve shown me the past few weeks. I’m excited to come home and get to work with some of my best friends. Pony Up,” Davis said in a Facebook post.
In her lone season with the Cougars, Davis was among the best freshmen players in the country. In 119 sets played, she posted 541 kills, a 0.267 hitting percentage, 24 aces, 31 assists, 252 digs and 43 total blocks.
Davis led BYU to a 22-9 record, 10-8 in the Big 12 and a #5 seed in the NCAA tournament. However, BYU’s season ended in the first round 3-2 against Cal Poly, where Davis had a team-high 26 kills.
Davis was named Big 12 Freshman Of The Week several times during the season and went on to get AVCA Second Team All-American, West Region Freshman Of The Year, All-West Region First Team, Big 12 Freshman Of The Year, All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
Her 541 kills broke a freshman record at BYU and she led all freshmen in the nation in total kills and kills per set (4.55). She was also second in the Big 12 in total kills and points. Her 10 double-doubles led the team and Davis finished with 30 games of 10+ kills, third most for BYU in the rally-scoring era.
SMU was among the top teams in the country and went to the tournament as a #2 seed. The Mustangs went 27-6 – tied for most wins in program history before falling in the regional semifinal against Purdue.
The Mustangs beat Florida in Round 2 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time.
Davis spent three seasons at CHHS – helping the Panthers win the Class 5A state championship as a sophomore in 2022. She spent her freshman year on varsity at Nolan Catholic where she compiled over 500 kills.
While in high school, Davis recorded over 2,000 career kills and 1,500 career digs. She even played setter during her junior year.
An Under Armour All-American and Player Of The Year by Prep Volleyball, Davis was a three-time All-State player in both volleyball and basketball and even helped the Panthers to the volleyball state tournament in 2023. The two-time All-Area Offensive MVP by GM Sports was one of the top players in the club level as well.
