Richardson defeated Irving MacArthur 42-7 in Week 11 to close out the regular season as district champions for the first time in 33 years.
After beating Lake Highlands 21-15, all the Eagles had to do was beat MacArthur to be district champs for the first time since 1992. Richardson had gone back-to-back as district champs in 1991 and 1992 – posting a combined record of 22-5.
The win over Lake Highlands was also a first in three decades.
This season, they are 7-3 overall.
After going 7-5 last season, it’s the first time since those 91-92 teams where Richardson has won 7+ games in back-to-back years. The playoff berth is also the first time going back-to-back since 2009 and 2010.
QB Lucas Sawyer threw for 247 yards and four touchdowns against MacArthur. Rico Harris rushed 10 times for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Three different players had a receiving touchdown (Dameon Crowe 2x, Jacob Watson, Deshawn Dewalt).
Richardson will host Haltom at 7 pm Friday.
