North Mesquite knocks off WT White late to clinch first playoff spot in 10 years

Terrence Collins scored with under two minutes left in the fourth quarter and North Mesquite edged out WT White 51-44 on Thursday – clinching its first playoff berth since 2015. 

North Mesquite moved to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in 6-5A D1 while WT White’s season came to a disappointing end at 5-5 overall and 4-4 in district play. 

It was a running back battle as Collins finished with 200 yards rushing for North Mesquite and scored four touchdowns. His counterpart, WT White’s Ben Ebeke rushed for 300 yards and also four touchdowns. 

The Longhorns led 9-6 after the first 12 minutes and then it was tied at 16-16 during the break. Both teams scored three touchdowns in the third quarter. 

West Mesquite, Carrollton Smith and Carrollton Creekview are the other three playoff teams in that district.
