DALLAS – Dallas Baptist scored with 1:29 left in regulation to edge out Texas Woman’s 3-2 in the championship game of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Sunday in Dallas.
#1 DBU won its fourth tourney title in program history (2019, 2022, 2023, 2025). The Patriots improved to 18-1.
Leading 1-0 at the intermission, the game was tied at 2 with under five minutes. Ashley Washburn got past a defender and scooted a ball just past the oncoming goalkeeper for the DBU lead in the 89th minute.
Next up for the Patriots is the NCAA D2 tournament.
Aledo’s McKenna Vela was LSC Tournament MVP with two goals on Sunday. Southlake Carroll’s Kenzi Tufts was one of five DBU players on the all-tournament team. The sophomore center back, who won a state title with the Dragons in 2022, played all 90 minutes. Keller’s Skylar Benlanger and Hebron Parker Coe’s also played the entire match.
Others on the all-tourney teams include Vela, Joeli Benson, Washburn and Emma Croley.
A total of 14 players on DBU are from the DFW metroplex Texas Woman’s University has 23 from the area. The Pioneers (15-3-3) were led by both goals from Plano East alum Giselle Gutierrez, who made the all-tournament team along with Arlington Lamar’s Bri Luna and Wylie East’s Alyssa Striker.
