Lovejoy converts go-ahead conversion in final seconds to take down Frisco Emerson

Lovejoy got new life with six seconds left when Frisco Emerson was called for an offside penalty during the go-ahead two-point conversion. Trailing 38-31, Lovejoy scored when Jacob Janecek found Travis Shegog on fourth down with six seconds left. 

The Leopards went for the game-tying extra point, but it was blocked by Emerson, however the Mavericks were called for offside. The Lovejoy offense went back on the field for the game-winning conversion and was successful on a Janecek run to win 39-38 on Thursday night. 

Lovejoy improved to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in District 4-5A D2 while Emerson dropped to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in district play. 

With the game tied at 17-17 at the intermission, Lovejoy came out to score two straight touchdowns. Zach Jones scored on a 50-yard run and the Leopards were up 31-17 midway through the third quarter. 

But the Mavericks scored the next 21 points to go ahead by 7. Emerson blocked a field goal and Spencer Carolina returned it for a 51-yard TD that tied the game at 31 with 7:54 left. 

Then Emerson grabbed the lead on a 1-yard run from QB Andrew Adame, who scored three times and rushed for 55 yards. Presha Allen also led the Emerson rush with 115 yards and one touchdown. Blake McLane caught six passes for 112 yards. 

Janecek threw for 205 yards for Lovejoy and rushed for 94 more. Jones had 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns while Kellen Gibson had eight grabs for 80 yards. 

Frisco closes the season out against Melissa and Frisco Independence. Lovejoy faces Prosper Walnut Grove, Denison and Frisco Memorial.
