Despite loss, Scott Campbell is confident in his Willow Park TCA team

WILLOW PARK— Years after Trinity Christian Academy in Willow Park was rocked by scandal, Scott Campbell walked on to the scene and began the long process of making this program his own.

Despite a 56-7 loss, the Eagles are showing signs of slowly becoming the program that won a state title in 2018.

“My message to the guys when I got here was we’re gonna turn the page,” head coach Scott Campbell said after the game. “We’ve got a group of six seniors that played hard tonight and they showed it. We brought in a new defensive scheme and new offensive scheme. We just wanted to speak life into the program.”

In his first year at the helm, the Eagles had already won two games going into their district opener with Pantego Christian at home. However, there is still a long way for the program to climb and that was evident as Pantego dominated from start to finish.

The Panthers scored twice early when quarterback Hayes Young scored on a run from 57 yards out, and running back Anthony Jackson scored from 15 yards out to make it 14-0 after one quarter.

The Eagles were resilient and found the end zone when Patrick Gulatt hit Hank Nash over the middle from eight yards out, but not before Pantego had already scored three more times. The halftime score was 35-7 in favor of the Panthers.

The Panthers continued their dominance on the field and ultimately rolled to a 56-7 win. Despite the loss the mood is high in eastern Parker County.

Even with the loss, the Eagles are still alive in the playoff race as they face Colleyville Covenant next week at home, while Pantego returns to Tarrant County to host Lake Country next week with a possible district championship on the line.
