Arlington Bowie rallies by Arlington Lamar to keep district title hopes alive

Bowie defeated Lamar 45-38 on Thursday to improve to 6-0 in District 8-6A with one game left. The Vols will face SGP (5-0) in Week 11 to close out the regular season. SGP plays Haltom on Friday and will look to set up a 6-0 vs 6-0 district championship.

Lamar drops to 3-3 in district and sits in fourth place in the district standings.

Haltom is 3-2 while Arlington is 2-3.

Arlington faces Grand Prairie on Friday. Following this week, there could be a 3-way tie with Haltom, Lamar and Arlington at 3-3 for two playoff spots. Lamar is still favored to clinch a playoff spot – leading all three in the tiebreaker. The Vikings face Grand Prairie in Week 11.

On Thursday, Bowie QB Jayden Bibbs threw for three touchdowns and rushed for 75 yards. RB Denzel Ponder was a workhorse with 21 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns.

Lamar was led by RB Tayrone Thomas, who rushed for over 200 yards and three scores.

The Vikings led 17-7 after the first quarter and 31-28 at the intermission. Bibbs threw a TD to Deontae Tennison to give Bowie a 42-38 edge with nine minutes left in the fourth. Bowie added a field goal to go up seven while the defense posted a shutout in the quarter.
