=======================

For the third straight week, the #3 North Crowley Panthers have trailed in their football game. The defending Class 6A D1 state champs came back to beat Lancaster in the season opener and then against DeSoto in Week 2.

Trailing by 13 early in the third quarter, North Crowley rallied back to beat Denton Guyer 28-27 in a 6A non-district clash on Friday night.

The Panthers (3-0) scored on the second play of the game when Demarcus Harris hit Damarion Mays for a 53-yard touchdown, but the Wildcats responded just five plays later.

Kaedyn Cobbs rushed in a score from 47 yards away to tie the game at 7-7 with 10:06 left in the first quarter. Cobbs finished with 137 yards on 18 carries.

Jayden Shaw’s 1-yard TD run gave NC a 14-7 lead later in the quarter before Guyer got a field goal to pull within 14-10. The Wildcats outscored the Panthers 10-0 in the second period to grab a 20-14 edge at the intermission. Carter Morgan scored and Andrew Johnson made his second field goal with under two minutes left in the half.

Guyer then went up 27-14 when Aiden Martens returned the second-half kickoff 96 yards.

Shaw and G’yrell Smith rushed in North Crowley touchdowns to end the third quarter with the Panthers leading 28-27. Guyer got to the NC 24-yard line on a big run from Cobbs, but the Panthers’ defense came up big with back-to-back sacks to force a punt with under six minutes left to play.

The Wildcats had a chance under a minute to go, but couldn’t get into field goal range.

Mays finished with 190 yards receiving on five catches.
