Grapevine picked up its first win since Nov. 9, 2023 after defeating Birdville 24-21 on Thursday night. Both teams are 1-1.
The Mustangs came into the night with a 12-game losing streak after going 0-10 last season and then losing to Frisco Wakeland 29-28 in the season opener.
Jake Graham and Jailen Holmes each rushed for a Grapevine touchdown while Luke Stuart led all players with 105 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Grapevine led 14-7 after the first quarter and 24-13 after three. The Mustangs are under new direction with head coach Ryan Smith, who was previously at East Texas Baptist.
Birdville won the latest GM Sports Media DFW Team Of The Week after taking down Crowley in Week 1. The Hawks will play Granbury in Week 3 while the Mustangs face Everman.
