Arlington Martin hangs 70+ in win over Mansfield

Last year’s game between Mansfield and Arlington Martin reached 115 points and nearly 1,000 yards with both teams hitting at least 50 on the scoreboard.

The Tigers won 62-53.

Almost a year later, the result was reversed with Martin winning in another offensive shootout. The Warriors finished with 664 yards including 473 on the ground during their 74-47 victory. Both teams are 1-2 on the season.

QB Chase Devoll threw for 191 yards on 11 of 16 passes and three touchdowns.

Javian Jones-Priest rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns while Daylon Cobb added 170 yards and three touchdowns. Martin recorded 37 runs and averaged 12.8 yards per attempt.

Cobb also caught three passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.

The Warriors came out hot with 22 points in the first quarter and led 36-21 at the intermission. Mansfield pulled within eight in the third quarter, but Martin scored three straight touchdowns to go up 65-35.

The Tigers gained over 400 yards – led by QB Mykah Lankford (370 total yards, 5 TDs).

Martin starts District 8-6A against Arlington Lamar on Sept. 19 while Mansfield finishes non-district play against Waco Midway – also on Sept. 19.
