Aledo among six schools to be crowned 2025 UIL Lone Star Cup winner

On Tuesday, the UIL announced its 2025 UIL Lone Star Cup winners and Aledo was the recipient of the Class 5A award.

According to a press release, the UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year and recognizes six high schools (one in each of the six UIL conferences) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included in contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup. Trophy presentations will take place in the fall at events chosen by the winning schools.

Aledo brought in 104 points and beating out fellow area schools Frisco Wakeland (95) and Argyle (93). It’s the Bearcats’ second Lone Star Cup – first since winning the inaugural Class 3A title in 1998.

The Bearcats claimed a state title in baseball and finished as state runner-up in one-act play, while also reaching the state semifinals in softball and volleyball. They placed third in state in boys track and field and girls cross country, fifth in marching band, and made deep playoff runs in football, girls basketball, and team tennis. Aledo also advanced to finals in state spirit and captured district titles in boys basketball, academics, and both boys and girls soccer.

Other winners include Austin Vandegrift (6A), Wimberley (4A), Holliday (3A), Shelbyville (2A) and Jayton (1A). Southlake Carroll (2), Flower Mound (3) and Allen (5) finished in the Top 5 in 6A; Lovejoy and Prosper Walnut Grove went fifth and sixth in 5A; Celina came in second in 4A with 106 points and was beating out narrowly by Wimberley (106.5); Decatur and Sunnyvale came in sixth and seventh in 4A; Gunter (3) and Grandview (5) finished in the Top 5 in 3A; and Muenster came in fourth in 2A.
