=====================================

Kit Kyle Martin, who spent 12 years building Mansfield Timberview into a girls basketball powerhouse, is coming out of retirement and will be the next coach at her alma mater Carthage.

Carthage is a 4A school three hours east of the DFW metroplex.

Martin graduated from Carthage in 1988 and was inducted into the school’s hall of honor in 2021.

Martin announced her retirement in May of 2024 after 12 years with Timberview and 33 years in education. She was also the athletic coordinator at Timberview. Martin has 783 wins in 28 years with Timberview, Flower Mound Marcus and Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill.

Martin began her coaching career at the University of Arkansas as an assistant coach to Gary Blair. After two years with the Razorbacks, she was a grad assistant under Blair at Stephen F. Austin. Her first high school gig in Texas came as the head coach at Marcus, where she spent 14 years while compiling a 341-137 overall record (71.3 winning percentage).

From there she moved down south to Barbers Hill for two years where she had a 69-14 record. She took Barbers Hill to the 2012 Class 4A state tournament where they lost to Mansfield Summit in the state semifinals, 40-37. After the 2012 season, Martin came back to the DFW metroplex and put together one of the best stints while at Timberview.

In 12 seasons, the Lady Wolves posted a 373-70 record (84.2 winning percentage). Timberview went 40-2 in 2024 and finished in the state championship game – losing to Frisco Liberty in the 5A final.

Overall, Martin’s teams have won 19 district titles, made 11 regional tournaments, five state tournaments (Timberview 4) and three state title games (all with Timberview). Carthage went 18-17 during the 2024-25 season and 8-6 in district – missing the playoffs.
