Jaxon Jenkins led all players with three hits and three different players had multiple RBIs for Collinsville as the Pirates dominated Overton 12-0 in the Class 2A D2 baseball state title game on Thursday at Dell Diamond from Round Rock.
Collinsville (32-4) caps off its second straight state championship. The Pirates won their third title overall (1999). They snapped a 25-year drought when they beat Hawley 9-0 in the 2A final last season.
Jenkins was voted state champ MVP going 3 for 4 with two RBI, two runs scored and one stolen base.
Cash Morgan and Noe Cantu also drove two runs each.
Garrett Trevino (12-1) got the win with four innings, three hits allowed, three walks and two strikeouts. Casen Schafer pitched three innings with one hit allowed and two walks while earning the save.
The Pirates scored four runs on three hits and three Overton errors in the first inning. After loading the bases, Morgan hit a two-run single to right field. Trevino singled to load the bases again. Morgan and Payton Davidson scored to extend the lead to 4-0.
Collinsville added eight runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Paxton Davidson hit a lead off double and Jenkins singled to put runners in scoring position. Davidson scored on a throwing error at short and Jenkins scored on a double from Payton Davidson. Brandon Cantu, Schafer also drove in runs for the Pirates.
Collinsville ends the season on a 9-game winning streak with only one loss in the playoffs. The Pirates beat Stamford 6-1 twice in the state semifinals and took out Muenster in Region 2 champ series.
Collinsville hasn’t given up a run in three games at Dell Diamond during the past two seasons. The Pirates beat Centerville 10-0 in the 2024 2A semifinals.
Morgan was state champ MVP last season vs Hawley with three hits, one double, two RBI, two runs and two steals. Logan Jenkins got the championship win in 2024 with a four-hit complete game shutout and six strikeouts.
