Tarryn Liechty hit the walk off RBI single to lead Sanger past Nevada Community 7-6 during Game 1 on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Indians finished the Braves off.
Leala Kloewer gave up two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and Lily Wilson had a solo home run as Sanger won 7-2 in Game 2 of their Class 4A Division 1 regional semifinal in Frisco.
Sanger (20-7) advances to the Region 2 final. The Indians played in the regional championship last season – advancing to the state semifinals.
Community ends 20-11-1 with its deepest run since 2010.
The Braves went ahead 1-0 in the second when Lyla Whitt scored on a wild pitch. Liechty tied it with a double in the third for the Indians. An RBI double from Makenna Bressler with two outs put Community back on top 2-1.
Kloewer led off the fourth with a single and two batters later, Sanger scored on a wild pitch. Kloewer added a two-run single in the fifth to give the Indians the lead for good. Chelsea Walton chipped in a single that extended the lead to 5-2.
Community put two on in the fifth with two outs but couldn’t score.
Wilson homered in the sixth and Liechty scored on a wild pitch after hitting a one-out triple in the seventh. With two on for the Braves in the bottom of the inning, Kloewer got the final K to send the Indians to the next round.
