AUSTIN – Hannah Wells and the Coahoma senior class of 2025 capped off a monumental career with a 6-1 win over Lexington in the Class 3A Division 2 state championship on Thursday at the University of Texas McCombs Field.

Coahoma (35-1) is the first softball team from Texas to win three consecutive UIL state championships. The Bulldogettes made the trip to Austin for the fourth straight year – finishing runner-up in 2022 vs Hallettsville.

Wells, a Texas signee, was voted state champ MVP for the second time in her career going all seven innings with one run allowed on six hits and eight strikeouts. She also went 2 for 3 with a home run, double and walk.

2026 Texas commit Mia Clemmer’s RBI double in the top of the first inning gave Coahoma a 1-0 lead but Lexington (26-9), making its first trip to state, tied it in the bottom half with an RBI single to left by Teal Brockenbush.

Two innings later and Wells drove a pitch to deep left to give Coahoma the go-ahead run and 2-1 lead. It was her fifth home run in seven UIL state games at UT.

Clemmer added a home run and two hits.

The Bulldogettes have won 93 of the past 94 games during the past three seasons. They owned a national record 91 game winning streak before it was stopped by S&S in Game 2 of the state semifinal round. S&S won the game 4-2.

Wells ends her senior year with a 0.602 batting average, 65 hits, 75 runs batted in and a state record 31 home runs. Her home run on Thursday broke a tie with El Paso Eastlake’s Kasey Flores, who hit 30 home runs in 2018. Wells ends her career with a 76-4 record from the circle – going 22-1 this spring.

In seven UIL state games, Wells hit 0.560 with five home runs, 14 RBIs, a 6-1 record, 55 innings pitched, a 3.05 ERA and 54 strikeouts. According to Coahoma’s MaxPreps page, Wells played in 140 career games and had 86 homers, 240 hits and 253 runs batted in.
