Aubrey 3, Snyder 1
Texas Woman’s University signee Mya Cherry put together another strong performance from the circle and Molly Reid homered to help Aubrey sweep Snyder in the Class 4A D2 state semifinals on Thursday at Stephenville and into the program’s first champ game in 18 years.
Aubrey (33-3) will face Robinson or Ingleside in the 4A D2 championship game next Friday May 30 from McCombs Field at the University of Texas in Austin. Robinson and Ingleside play Game 3 on Saturday in San Antonio.
This is the Chaparrals’ fifth trip to the semis and third to the champ game – first since 2007.
They lost to Troy 6-3 in 07 and to Danbury 1-0 in 04.
Cherry finished with one unearned run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts. She tossed a three hit shutout with four strikeouts in Aubrey’s 2-0 win during Game 1 on Wednesday. Abby Buxton (Ole Miss) hit a home run.
In Game 2, the Chaps scored all three runs in the bottom of the first.
Cherry gave up half her hits in the first inning as Snyder had two on and two outs, but Cherry escaped the threat with a grounder to Reid at second. Buxton started the Aubrey first with a four pitch walk and two batters later Reid drilled a two run home run to left field.
Cherry hit a two-out single and two batters later scored from second on a single from Addison White. Cherry had retired 10 straight batters until a lead off single in the fifth. Snyder scored in the inning on an error.
Snyder had the game tying run at the plate in the seventh until Cherry got a grounder to Carmen Alexander at third to send the Chaps to Austin. Aubrey has an 11-game winning streak.

Grandview 4, Bishop 0
After a long weather delay, Texas commit Madi Doty and the Zebras finished off Bishop in their one game Class 3A D1 state semifinal game on Thursday at Wimberley.
Grandview (33-3) is off to the champ game in Austin for the second straight season. The Zebras will play Thursday May 29 against the winner of Whitesboro and Iowa Park, who play Game 2 Saturday in Graham. Iowa Park is up 1-0 after winning 2-0 in Game 1.
This is Grandview’s fourth trip to the semis and third straight.
Last year was the program’s first champ game appearance – falling to Coahoma in extra innings.
Doty tossed a two-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts. All four runs came in the second with two outs. Jaley James (UNT) hit an RBI single and SJ Mann (ACU) added an inside the park home run that plated three.
Doty had retired eight straight and had a no hitter through four before a lead off single in the fifth. Bishop put two runners on with one out but the junior pitcher got a strikeout and grounder to James at short.
Bishop also had a lead off single in the sixth before Doty shut down the next three.
Doty finished off Bishop in the seventh on 12 pitches with back to back grounders and her 10th strikeout.
