=========================

I had Prosper going three rounds deep in the 6A D2 softball playoffs, but that isn’t happening. Not only that, but the Eagles didn’t get a run during two games against FM Marcus. The Marauders, who finished in fourth place in the 5-6A standings stunned the 6-6A champs in the bi-district round by scores of 14-0 and 4-0.

In Game 1, Marcus scored five runs in the fourth inning and six more in the fifth to win by run-rule.

Pitcher Chloe Poteete hurled a two-hitter and struck out seven.

Marcus led 1-0 after Myleene Olguin hit a pitch to deep left field for an RBI. Poteete got out of a jam in the second as the Eagles stranded two runners in scoring position. After intentionally walking Emily Souders, Brynnan Wilhite laid down a bunt and Prosper couldn’t get the out – committing an error that led to two runs and a 3-0 lead for the Marauders.

Poteete struck out the side in the third.

Prosper committed two more errors that led to four Marcus runs in the fourth. Wilhite also drove in her second run on a sac fly to right and the Marauders led 8-0. Marlee Middeleer hit a two-run double in the top of the fifth. Calli Rasmussen hit an RBI single and Olguin added an RBI triple.

In Game 2, Poteete continued her dominance from the circle.

The all-area pitcher went the full seven innings and allowed three hits with seven more strikeouts.

Wilhite singled to center that drove in a run and gave Marcus a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Prosper put the first two runners on base in the top of the second but Poteete shut down the next three batters.

Olguin led off with a double and scored two batters later on a Karli Burgess two-out double to left that gave Marcus a 2-0 lead. Prosper had two runners on in the fourth with two outs until Poteete got a short fly out. Olguin singled to start the bottom of the inning and Middeleer reached on an error.

Olguin scored on another error to make it 3-0.

Souders opened the fifth with her 11th home run of the season. Poteete retired the last seven batters and nine of the last 10. She didn’t allow a hit in the final three innings. Marcus (23-9) takes on Arlington in the area round. The 3-game series begins Thursday in Coppell.

I’ll be eating some crow on this one for a while.
