Junior Maddy Whitmire loves getting cycles this time of year. The UT-Tyler commit recorded a cycle vs Anna on Tuesday March 18 – nearly a year from getting one vs Greenville last season.

Against Anna in District 9-5A action, Whitmire batted 4 for 4 with four runs batted in and four runs scored along with two stolen bases.

The Sherman lead off hitter began her first at-bat by drawing a walk and then got her first stolen base. Anna went up 2-0 before the Bearcats tacked on three in the bottom of the second off a three-run homer by Azaria Dube. Whitmire hit a double to left two batters later and then got her second steal.

Anna went up 10-3 with eight runs in the third.

In the bottom of the third, Whitmire picked up an RBI single to cut the deficit to 10-6 and then scored on a double from Aubrey Mask that made it 10-9. Sherman answered Anna with eight of its own runs in the third to go back in front 11-10.

Whitmire got her home run off a three-run bomb to left that gave Sherman a 14-12 edge in the bottom of the fourth. The Bearcats added five more runs in the inning – up 19-12. Whitmire came up in the sixth and got a one-out triple to center and scored on the next at bat with a bunt single from Jordyn Plumlee.

Dube walked in a run later in the sixth to end the game with Sherman up 25-15.

Just one day later last season – on March 19, Whitmire also hit for the cycle against Greenville in a district game. She also went 4 for 4 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and six RBIs. The Bearcats also put up 20 runs that night and won by 10 with a final score of 21-11.

Whitmire was voted District Catcher Of The Year in 2024 and TSWA all-state honorable mention. The Bearcats are 2-3 in district this season.
