Gosset’s Softball Highlights (3/28-3/29): Guyer mounts comeback vs Flower Mound, Whitesboro blanks Boyd and more from DFW

GUYER 3, FLOWER MOUND 2

Trailing all night, the Wildcats rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Jaguars in a first-place battle in District 5-6A. Seven Guyer batters came to the plate in the seventh – getting four singles, one walk and benefitting from two Flower Mound errors.

Chloe O’Brien singled to set up two on base and Madison Joyner drove in a run with a sac fly to center field. Cali Parham and Emma Richard added back-to-back singles that loaded the bases and Bri Williams drew a four-pitch walk to bring it to 3-2.

Parham scored from third on the Jags’ second error of the inning.

Finley Montgomery got the win for Guyer with four hits and seven strikeouts. Flower Mound freshman Bella Flores only allowed one earned run with 10 strikeouts.

ALL SAINTS 4 SOUTHWEST CHRISTIAN 3

Maggie Meyer drove in Anna Hardaway with a grounder to shortstop in the bottom of the fifth inning that broke a 3-3 tie as the Saints edged out the Eagles in a key TAPPS D2-1 district game on Friday.

Heidi Peterson allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out 13 for All Saints.

Evan Smith struck out seven in a complete game effort for the Eagles.

Meyer had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Meyer added another hit – a two-run single in the third to extend the margin to 3-0. SCS tied it in the top of the fourth inning on RBIs from Scout Auten and Addison Davidson, who later scored the game-tying run on an error.

Peterson allowed one hit and struck out four batters to get the final six outs.

WHITESBORO 10 BOYD 0

The Bearcats picked up their second 10-0 victory of the week after taking down Boyd in a big District 10-3A showdown on Friday. Whitesboro beat Pilot Point 10-0 on Tuesday. Whitesboro and Boyd split the season series with Boyd winning 5-3 on March 5.

Avery Howerton threw a three-hit shutout and struck out seven.

Bradi Gallaway and Tylar Olsen both hit home runs for the second straight game. Gallaway and Cameron Ortiz both drove in three runs.

Whitesboro scored four in the second and three in the third and fourth.

REEDY 8 WAKELAND 4

Abby Jackson homered and drove in five runs as the Lions completed the season sweep over the Wolverines in District 12-5A on Saturday. Reedy (8-0 in district) won the first matchup 9-7 on March 4.

Sierra Petersdorf went 3 for 5 with two runs batted in.

Wakeland led 2-0 after two innings before Reedy scored three in the third. Megan Lau hit a lead off single and two batters later, Katelyn Crosby walked to set up two runners on base. Jackson drove a 1-2 pitch to deep left for a three-run home run. Jackson added a two-run single in the fourth to give Reedy a 5-2 margin.

Kayla Courcy’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth helped Wakeland cut the deficit to 5-4. But a two-run single from Petersdorf and an RBI single by Crosby gave the Lions a cushion and helped them pull away. Addison Daudelin came on in relief and got the win with 5 2/3 innings and one earned run.

MID HERITAGE 7 MIDLOTHIAN 3

The Jaguars hit three home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat the Panthers in a key District 15-5A showdown on Friday night. The two teams split the season series with Midlo winning 6-2 on March 5.

Taylor Bilderback tied it with a solo home run in the first inning. She also walked in a run to give the Jags a 2-1 lead in the third and Trinity Chittamai made it 3-1 with a hard RBI single to left field.

Aniyah Givens tied it for the Panthers in the fourth with a two-run single.

Heritage would pull away in the bottom of the fifth with a home runs by Chittamai, Rylee Parrish and Ava Robinson. Chittamai hit a solo home run and was followed by a double from Amiya Vanmeter before Parrish and Robinson went back to back.

SACHSE 9 WYLIE 4

The Mustangs exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth as Sachse picked up a big win in District 9-6A and handed the Pirates their first district loss on Saturday.

Wylie had a 2-1 lead after the first inning, but Sachse scored two in the second and one in the third to go ahead 4-2. Maya McClarity hit a grand slam in the fourth to spark a five-run inning that extended the lead to 9-2.

McClarity had two hits and five RBIs.

Xochitl Mendoza added two RBIs for Sachse, which had two hits each from its first four batters. Logan Schultz got the complete game win with six hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters.

BURLESON 6 JOSHUA 4

Kealy Custead and Lanie Bedwell hit back-to-back RBI doubles to highlight a three-run sixth inning as the Elks defeated Joshua in a key District 8-5A showdown on Friday night. Addy Sellers led Burleson with two hits and two runs batted in.

Ryan Hovland got the win with two hits and two unearned runs through five innings. She also allowed no walks and struck out four batters. Calli Gourley gave the Elks a 3-2 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.

GRAPEVINE 9 COLLEYVILLE HERITAGE 2

The Mustangs scored four times in the top of the first inning as Grapevine completed the season sweep over the Panthers in District 6-5A. Ava Snyder homered and drove in three to lead the Grapevine bats.

Raegan Stanley and Gisele Rayngay added two hits, one double and one RBI each. Bella MacMahon threw six innings and allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts.

BROCK 5 GLEN ROSE 0

The Eagles improved to 19-0-2 on the heels of freshman Ali Coleman’s 1-hit gem as Brock blanked the Tigers in District 6-4A. Coleman didn’t allow a walk and struck out 16 of 24 batters faced.

Coleman also led the Brock hitting with a double and three RBIs.

Kat Utley and Mia Richards drove in one run each.

ROYSE CITY 8 ROCKWALL 2

Lacey Hicks and Bri Duffey hit homers in the bottom of the first inning to kick start a District 10-6A win over Rockwall – avenging a loss to the Yellowjackets back on March 4. Abby Mangrum struck out eight batters in the complete game victory.

Addison Edgington highlighted the Jackets with homer in the fifth.

Duffey’s home run marked her 11th of the season.

ARGYLE 3 RICHLAND 2

Kelsi Klein had the walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the 10th as the Eagles outlasted the Royals in District 6-5A on Friday night. Avery Hankins began a two-out rally with single to right field off a 3-1 pitch before Klein’s big hit.

Argyle led 2-0 in the seventh, but Richland scored two in the inning to force extras.

Avari Sandifer went all 10 for the Eagles and had zero walks and seven strikeouts. Stacy Jennings also went the distance for Richland and had three strikeouts.

EULESS TRINITY 7 BYRON NELSON 6

Feao Hau walked it off and drove in Reagan Apple as the Trojans snapped a two-game skid and beat the Bobcats in a key District 4-6A contest on senior night Friday.

Apple walked to open the bottom the seventh and advanced to third on an error.

Trinity scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and Byron Nelson scored scored four in the top of the second. Phoebe Smyers and Taci Mitchell had back-to-back RBI hits in the bottom of the sixth to help the Trojans turn a 5-4 deficit into a 6-5 lead.

Smyers finished with four runs batted in with a three-run homer in the first.

Gabby Cuellar led the Bobcats with three hits, one triple and two RBIs.

STAT OF THE NIGHT

3- Melissa junior Florida commit Kennedy Bradley went 3 for 4 with three home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Cardinals to an 18-0 win over Greenville on Friday. The Cards (22-0, 8-0 in 9-5A) had 19 hits, 13 extra base hits and eight home runs. Caigan Crabtree and Izzy Gonzales each hit two out and Paisley Needham added on. Bradley’s three pushed her into the lead among DFW with 16 homers this season. She had 20 last year. Melissa has 74 home runs this season – needing 19 more to pass last year’s total of 92, which set a state record.

3- Joshua junior Leilanie Sam went 4 for 4 with three home runs and nine RBIs to lead the Owls over Mansfield Timberview in District 8-5A on Saturday. It was the second straight day Sam went deep as she added one homer on Friday vs Burleson.

46- Keller junior Kansas commit Mackenna Jackson had two hits, three runs and three RBIs in Keller’s District 4-6A win over Keller Central. Jackson increased her total to 46 RBIs this season (tied for 4th most in Texas according to MaxPreps), in 23 games – the second fewest among the Top 5.
