Glen Rose returns to state semifinals after dominating Brock in regional final

GODLEY – For the third time this season, the Glen Rose Tigers defeated the Brock Eagles – clinching a spot in the Class 4A Division 2 state semifinals, Friday night at Godley HS.

Lily Melton scored a game-high 17 points, Alexis Rynders added 11 and Glen Rose won 43-21. The Tigers (36-2) held the Eagles to just four points after halftime – zero in the fourth quarter.

Brock ends its first year in Class 4A with a 25-10 record.

Glen Rose, #3 in the TABC 4A rankings, advances to the semifinal round for the second time in three years and fifth time overall. The Tigers will face #1 Dallas Lincoln at 7 pm Tuesday at Mansfield Legacy HS. Lincoln knocked off Godley on Friday in the Region 2 title game.

Glen Rose also made state in 2023 – which was a first for the team since 1971.

It was a offensive struggle in the first quarter as Glen Rose led Brock 7-6.

The Tigers opened the second quarter with the first seven points to increase their lead to 14-6. The Eagles continued to have a hard time getting a basket, but did score five straight to pull within 16-11. Rynders, who signed her letter of intent in November with Tarleton State, drained a 3-pointer to push the lead back to eight.

Glen Rose took a 24-17 lead into halftime.

8 straight points to start the third quarter gave the Tigers their biggest lead. Melton hit a pair of free throws and the Tigers were up 32-17. They led 36-21 entering the fourth quarter.

Glen Rose would play keep away and kill the clock in the final eight minutes. Brock only managed eight field goals all game with one 3-pointer and 4 of 6 from the free throw line.

Laney Hudson scored eight points and Keira Mathews added six for the Eagles.

Aubrey Schuelke hit a three in the first quarter for Glen Rose. Addison Treppa scored four points in the first and second quarters. The Tigers four 3-pointers and went 9 of 11 from the charity stripe.

Treppa finished with eight.
