For the first time in nearly three years, Frisco Liberty has lost a girls basketball playoff game as Wakeland dethroned the back-to-back Class 5A state champions 48-42 on Monday during their Class 5A D2 bi-district game.
Wakeland (29-6) ended the night on a 9-1 run and will face Anna in the area round.
Anna defeated Jacksonville on Monday.
Liberty last lost a playoff game in the 5A Region 2 final against Frisco Memorial on Feb. 26, 2022. The Redhawks have reached state six times since 2016 with three state titles – adding their first championship in 2020.
They beat Lubbock Cooper 57-52 in 2023 and Mansfield Timberview 60-51 in 2024.
It’s Liberty’s earliest exit since losing to Wylie in the first round during the 2012 season.
Madison Epps led the Wolverines with 17 points while Charlotte Cavin added 12. Going into the fourth quarter, Wakeland lost an 8-point lead when Liberty scored 10 straight points before getting the lead back.
Boswell 57, SL Carroll 26
Miami signee Camille Williams led all scorers as Boswell defeated Southlake Carroll 57-26 on Monday during their Class 6A D2 bi-district championship.
The Pioneers ended the regular season #2 in the TABC state rankings and #1 in the GM Sports Media rankings. They improved to 34-2 overall.
Carroll ends the year 22-10 and runner-up in District 4-6A.
Williams finished with 17 points.
Seleste Massey and Salena Carrasco added 14 points apiece.
The Dragons struggled to find a groove on offense against Boswell’s defense – scoring fewer than 10 points in each quarter. Boswell led 18-5 in the first quarter and 35-12 at the intermission.
Brock 37, Lubbock-Liberty 36
Keira Matthews got past two defenders to hit the game-winning layup with 1.4 seconds left and the Eagles beat the Patriots during their Class 4A D2 bi-district championship on Monday.
The Eagles improved to 23-9.
Liberty ends 16-14.
Brock will face Bridgeport in the area round later this week.
Bridgeport beat Benbrook 90-21 on Monday night.
Braswell 58, Princeton 51
The Bengals, #3 in the final GM Sports Media rankings, edged out Princeton during their Class 6A D2 bi-district championship on Monday. Princeton ends its first year in 6A with a playoff berth and runner-up finish in District 6-6A.
Ytaly Lewis led Braswell with 20 points.
Sachse 41, Rockwall 36
Camille Logan led the Mustangs with 12 points as Sachse beat the Yellowjackets in their Class 6A D1 bi-district championship on Monday night.
Sachse moves on to area and faces Duncanville, which beat Bryan 82-47.
Frisco Memorial 61, Frisco Lone Star 35
Payton Jones had a team-high 15 points as the Warriors eliminated the Rangers in their Class 5A D2 bi-district championship on Monday night.
Memorial faces Lovejoy in the area round.
Lovejoy beat Mount Pleasant 62-26.
Guyer 54, Prosper 36
Baylee Bowman, the sister of former area football star Billy Bowman, dropped 15 points as the Wildcats knocked off District 6-6A champion Prosper in their Class 6A D2 bi-district contest on Monday.
Guyer moves on to play the winner of Arlington Lamar and Berkner.
Prosper ends 25-8 and went 15-1 in district play.
