GARLAND – Bushland moved into sole possession for 10th place on the all-time UIL state championships list after winning its eighth in program history following a 25-19, 25-27, 25-13, 25-8 win over Goliad in the Class 3A Division 1 final on Friday at the Culwell Center.
The Falcons (45-4) have made all of their 13 state appearances since 2006 and secured a state title for the second straight year and fourth in the past five seasons. Goliad ends the year with a 41-6 record.
Setter MacKenzie Sims was voted state champ MVP with her triple double of 24 assists, 11 kills and 10 digs. Lily Shannon and Ambree Hatfield led all players with 15 kills apiece and Bella Babbit added 12 for the Falcons.
Avery Ramos had a game-high 34 digs while Ansley Tiffin-Fernandes posted 16 kills and 20 digs. Brooklyn Koenig had six kills as Bushland finished hitting 0.300 as a team with 0.621 coming in the fourth and final set.
Goliad was led by Addison Yendrey and Maevyn Wunsch who put in 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Isabel Sanchez had a game-high 32 assists and Karolynn Youngblood added a team-high 25 digs.
