ARLINGTON – Mansfield Timberview scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and penalties plagued Arlington Seguin as the Wolves defeated the Cougars 38-24 in a District 3-5A D2 showdown on Thursday night from Wilemon Field. Timberview pulls to 0.500 with a 3-3 overall record and 2-2 in district.

Meanwhile, the Cougars dropped their first game of the season and moves to 5-1 and 3-1.

Seguin took the opening possession 10 plays and well into Timberview territory before settling for a 35-yard field goal from kicker Oscar Lopez to put the Cougars up 3-0 with 7:22 left in the first quarter. Timberview’s first drive ended in a three-and-out and a punt, but Seguin’s next drive also resulted in a punt.

On Timberview’s second drive of the night, the Wolves started at their own 24 yard line and ran 11 plays. Running back Taylor Hanson rushed for 19 yards on the first play of the drive. QB Anthony DeSanto hit Tyler Madison for 15 and the Wolves got to the Seguin 6 before Emma Young nailed a 23-yard field goal that tied it at 3-3 to start the second quarter.

A 15-yard personal foul pushed Seguin’s next possession to a second-and-25. Then it was fourth-and-32 after a sack by Timberview’s Sean Larry. Following a false start, the Cougars punted on fourth-and-37, but the ball was dropped and the Wolves made the tackle at the Seguin 10-yard line.

On the play, a fight broke out on the Timberview sideline and after a five-minute discussion between the officials, three players from Seguin and two from Timberview were ejected. Additionally, one more Cougar was sent to the locker room. After a five-yard penalty on Seguin, Hanson punched it in from the 5 to give the Wolves a 10-3 lead with 8:27 left in the second quarter.

Following a sack by Timberview’s Dylan Dansby, Seguin had to punt again on fourth-and-24 and two plays into the ensuing drive, the Wolves went up 17-3 on Jaylon Woods’ 68-yard touchdown run midway through the quarter.

The Cougars got a great kickoff return and 15 yards on a Timberview foul as they started the drive at the 17. QB Chevy Andrews hit Kohen Peeler on third down for a 17-yard touchdown as Seguin pulled within 17-10 with 5:46 on the clock.

Woods and Timberview answered with a 39-yard TD run and 24-10 lead two minutes later.

Malachi Meche gained 22 yards for Seguin and the Cougars later converted a fake punt attempt on fourth down as G’Mani Smith hit SMU commit Carterrious Brown for 20 yards to the Timberview 20. After a 16-yard loss, Andrews ran for 12 and hit Smith for 22 for a first-and-goal at the 2. On the next play, Andrews threw a lob to Brown, who made the one handed grab over two defenders for the touchdown. However, a personal foul on the Cougars pushed the extra point back to a 35-yard attempt and the try was wide, leaving it 24-16 at halftime.

Seguin’s defense forced a three-and-out on the first drive of the third quarter and the Cougars went down and tied the game at 24. Andrews completed back-to-back passes to Brown and Smith for 12 and 22 yards – the latter resulting in a touchdown with 7:42 left in the frame. Three straight penalties on Seguin pushed its two-point conversion back, but the Cougars still managed to convert as Andrews found Meche in the end zone.

Both offenses would stall until seconds left in the third.

Woods scored his third touchdown of the night on a 28-yard run to put Timberview ahead at 31-24 with 10 seconds left. The Wolves’ defense then stepped up with an interception and QB Anthony DeSanto added a 5-yard TD run with two minutes left for the final punch.

Timberview looks to keep the momentum going in Week 7 with Mansfield Summit.

Seguin tries to get back on track in Week 7 with a trip to Argyle.
