Curt Culbertson, who took Arlington Martin to state three times in a four-year span, died on Thursday after his battle with cancer.

Culbertson served as a head baseball coach for 33 years – the last 19 of his career with Martin. He retired after the 2023 season and won 678 career games.

According to Texas High School Baseball – less than 50 coaches in the state have reached the 600 win mark.

Culbertson also coached at Alvarado and Weatherford, but spent more than 25 years with Arlington ISD. He led the Warriors to state tournament appearances in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

In 2014, Martin played in the 6A state championship game after beating Laredo Alexander 3-2 in the semifinals. The Warriors lost to Cypress Ranch 3-0 in the title match to finish second.

Culbertson is an Arlington product – having graduated from Arlington High in 1978.

He coached Arlington Bowie from 1994 to 2005 and was inducted in the Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor in May. As a player with AHS, Culbertson was District MVP. As a coach, he helped open Bowie and would coach first round MLB draft pick Vernon Wells.

At Martin, he won 12 district championships and made the regional final seven times.
