The Panthers improved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in District 3-5A Division 2.

Meanwhile, Seguin is going the opposite direction with its third consecutive loss.

The Panthers play Summit next week while Seguin travels to Everman.

Seguin dominated the time of possession in the first half – holding onto the ball for more than two-thirds longer than Colleyville Heritage. Seguin went 11 plays on its first drive and marched 71 yards before stalling out and turning it over on downs on a fourth-and-4 from the Panthers’ 22-yard line.

Then the Cougars fumbled on their next drive.

They got to the Colleyville Heritage 28 before going back 10 yards on a holding penalty. Then on the next play, they fumbled and Bryson Burgess recovered, and returned it to the Seguin 28. Six plays later and the Panthers got a 17-yard touchdown run from quarterback Bodey Weaver for a 7-0 lead with 11:53 left in the second quarter.

Two plays later and Chevy Andrews threw a 14-yard TD pass to Koheen Peeler to tie it up with 2:39 left.

After a quick three-and-out from the Panthers, the Cougars got another possession with 1:34 to go on the clock. Meche got a 37-yard pickup and Andrews added 21 yards to the 2. Kadarius Trotter punched it in to give Seguin a 14-7 lead with 32 seconds.

But for as well as Seguin played in the first half, the Cougars struggled mightily in the second half.

The Panthers started the third quarter on the Seguin 33 following a good return and a Seguin 15-yard facemask penalty. Dedrien Gaines ran for 18 to the 6 and two plays later Jerrod Wiley Jr. scored on a 3-yard TD run to make it 14-14 with 9:54 left.

After a Seguin punt, the Panthers went 8 plays for 68 yards capped by a 19-yard TD run from Bryce Abram, who led the team with 79 yards on 11 carries Colleyville Heritage took a 21-14 lead midway through the frame. Then after another punt, the Panthers marched from their own 34 to the Seguin 14 before getting a 31-yard field goal from all-star kicker Ryan Zuckert that extended the lead to 24-14 near the end of the quarter.

Colleyville Heritage only managed 155 yards on 43 plays (94 rushing) compared to Seguin’s 366 yards on 57 plays. The Cougars rushed 30 times for 252 yards.
