Byron Nelson finally jumped up as the top-ranked high school volleyball team in the entire country via MaxPreps, which released its new poll on Tuesday. The Bobcats were holding on to the #2 rankings for several weeks.

The Bobcats sport an incredible 28-1 overall record and 10-0 in District 4-6A. They defeated Euless Trinity on Tuesday night. Mater Dei dropped from #1 to #2. Benet Academy (IL) is #3 with a 21-0 record.

Plano Prestonwood (TX), who has won back to back TAPPS 6A titles, is #4 at 27-2.

Dripping Springs is another Texas school in the Top 10 at #6 with a 38-2 record. San Antonio Cornerstone (34-4) is #11, defending 5A champ Lucas Lovejoy (26-7) is #17 and Byron Nelson’s district foe Keller (22-3) is #22 to round out the Lone Star State.

Byron Nelson has won 24 straight matches.

The Bobcats only loss came against Highland Park during week one of the season at the Ann Kang Invitational. Byron Nelson ended up winning that tournament in Hawaii – becoming the first school from Texas to win it in its 35-year history. Then the following week, the Bobcats beat Colleyville Heritage and Lovejoy in the final four to win the Northwest ISD Classic.

Coach Bri Groth, who was an All-American at Oklahoma, and her team have won 30 sets in district while only dropping two. Overall, Byron Nelson has won 70 sets and dropped eight. The Bobcats are also the #1 team in the GM Sports Media Class 6A rankings.
