The University of Nebraska hosted Omaha at the school’s football facility – Memorial Stadium – during the 2023 season. It was a record-breaking night as more than 92,000 spectators were on the scene to see the Huskers put a volleyball court right in the middle of the football field.
How many times have we’ve seen that?
Especially at the high school level in Texas – probably never.
But perhaps for the first time in Texas high school volleyball history, we’ll have such a game on Tuesday night when Grapevine visits Argyle Liberty Christian. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
Liberty Christian’s football team is coached by former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. The Warriors are 7-1 overall this season and won a state championship last fall. Meanwhile, the volleyball team won two straight TAPPS 5A state titles before moving up to 6A. They are 30-7 and recently captured their seventh straight district championship.
This will also be a playoff warm up for Grapevine, which finished fourth in District 6-5A. The Mustangs will begin the postseason in the 5A Region 1 Division 2 bracket either Nov. 4 or Nov. 5.
