It hasn’t taken long for Madi Doty to become one of the best players not only in the state, but in the entire country.
In two years of high school ball at Grandview, Doty has helped the program to two state tournament appearances and has shined at the national level that includes two gold medals overseas.
On Sunday, she secured yet another accomplishment with a commitment to national power Texas Longhorns.
“12 years ago it started with a bat, tee, and a bucket of baseballs in the front yard with my dad. Baseballs turned into softballs, from that point on this little girl knew softball was the sport for her. First of all I want to thank God because without him none of this would be possible. I want to thank all of my coaches for pushing me and helping me become the player I am today. I want to thank my parents for making a way for my dreams to come true. Thank you to my brother for always supporting me and spending all of those summers at the softball fields.” – said Doty.
In the spring, Grandview played in the title game for the first time, but fell to Coahoma in the 3A final, 3-2 in eight innings. Doty finished with a stellar 25-2 record, 0.62 ERA and 314 strikeouts. 0.581 BA, 71 RBI and 16 HR – tied for eighth most in the area.
Doty hit a 2-run HR in the title game vs Coahoma and had four hits in the semifinals vs Halletsville.
During her freshman year with the Zebras, Doty posted a 17-2 record from the circle and was named district MVP. Grandview went 39-4 and reached the Class 3A state semifinals where Doty had multiple hits and one run batted in.
Doty and the U-15 Women’s National softball team clinched the World Cup gold medal with a 3-0 win over Puerto Rico in Tokyo, Japan during the fall of her sophomore year. The Americans won the 2023 World Baseball Softball Confederation U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup.
Doty struck out 17 batters through 11 1/3 innings throughout the tournament. She was a part of the pitching staff that allowed 15 hits in eight games and combined for 84 strikeouts.
She also won a gold medal that April.
The Grandview star allowed two hits and struck out four to pick up the win as the US U-15 women’s national softball team defeated Mexico in a run rule 9-0 in the 2023 WBSC Pan-American gold medal game in Peru. She was awarded tournament MVP with three wins, 22 strikeouts while not allowing a single run.
