Saginaw, Chisholm Trail off to 3-0 starts

Saginaw scored 44 points in the first half against Fort Worth Polytechnic on Saturday as the Rough Riders went on to win 54-7 and improve their record to 3-0. It’s their first 3-0 start since the 2019 season when they finished 7-4 and reached the playoffs.

The Rough Riders open District 4-5A D1 play with a win.

The Parrots fall to 0-3 and 0-1.

QB Roman Morales completed all five pass attempts for 256 yards and three touchdowns – averaging 51.2 yards per pass. He added 27 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Reggie Ryan led all rushers with 110 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown.

Eight different players ran the ball for Saginaw – totaling 32 carries for 266 yards. Isaiah Quinones and Vincent Gonzales also scored rushing touchdowns. WR Aidan Collier made four catches for 228 yards and caught all three TD passes from Morales – all in the first half.

Morales and Collier connected on a 97-yard touchdown to make it 44-7 late in the second quarter.

In Week 2, Saginaw defeated rival Boswell 46-33 to win the Wagon Wheel for the first time since 2019. It was also the program’s most points in the series since 2007.

Saginaw’s district rival Chisholm Trail also began 4-5A D1 with a 37-33 win over FW Wyatt. The Rangers also moved to 3-0 after scoring a touchdown in the final minutes to pull away for a 37-33 victory. It’s their best start in program history.

Chisholm Trail went 1-9 in 2023 and 2-8 in 2022.

Saginaw posted 1-9 records in the past three seasons.

The two teams will face off in Week 11 to cap off the regular season.
