Kyndal Payne, one of the best volleyball players to come through DFW, has set a record at Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The 5-foot-11 senior outside hitter is the new career leader in kills following the Islanders game against Houston Christian on Saturday.

Payne finished with 19 kills and now sits at 1,396 in her incredible college career – surpassing former Islander Brianna Brink, who had 1,392 kills from 2011 to 2014.

The Islanders still have at least 15 more matches this season.

The two-time All-American is also second all time with 3.72 kills per set and 0.255 hitting. Against Houston Christian, Payne also registered her seventh double double of the season and third straight with 15 digs. The 19 kills and 15 digs both tied a season-high for Payne.

A&M Corpus Christi dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-2 in conference.

In four seasons, Payne has 920 digs, 158 assists, 55 aces and 169 total blocks. As a sophomore, she put in a career high 479 kills and 325 digs. Last season, she had a high with a 0.290 hitting percentage. At Eaton, she led the Eagles to two straight appearances in the 6A Region 1 final.

Payne was first-team all-district three times in high school and was District Offensive MVP in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Payne was all-state and an all-american in 2020.
