Quarterback Ken Jones threw three touchdowns as Arlington Sam Houston opened the season Thursday with a 24-3 win over Irving Nimitz. The win snapped a 26-game losing streak and was the Texans’ first since Sept. 17, 2021 vs Keller Central.

The last time Sam Houston won its opener came against North Mesquite in 2019.

Jones completed 10 of 17 passes for 114 yards. Running back Jaylen Harper led the way on the ground with 132 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown. Devon Dawkins caught two TDs from Jones and Carlos Santillan caught the other.

Both teams forced one turnover with the Sam Houston D getting an interception.

Harper’s 30-yard TD run put Sam ahead in the first quarter and Jones hit Dawkins from 27 yards out as the Texans led 12-3 after the opening frame. Sam led 18-3 at half.
