Grandview-Franklin softball opener postponed due to tornado

A scary moment occurred Wednesday night in Temple, TX.

Grandview and Franklin were getting ready to play Game 1 of the Class 3A Region 3 final at Lake Belton HS. The first pitch was scheduled for 6 pm, but lightning forced a delay and pushed the game back at least an hour.

However, around 7 pm – still in a delay – a tornado touched down in Temple and got to the campus.

According to a Grandview parent, the tornado knocked down the outfield fence, power lines and a ticket booth. It’s unclear right now if one tornado came through Temple or if there were multiple. It’s also unclear the strength of the tornado, but a report on Twitter/X was a possible EF3, which can be at least 136 MPH winds.

The softball opener is now moved to Thursday 4 pm at West HS.

Game 2 and 3 are still to be determined. Game 2 was originally scheduled for Thursday and Game 3 was set for Saturday – both at Lake Belton. Grandview is 29-3 and Frankliin is 39-3-1.

It’s a rematch of last year’s 3A R3 final with Grandview winning in three games and advancing to the state tournament. The Zebras rallied to beat Kountze in three games last week while Franklin beat East Bernard in three.
