Catie Amador struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits as Joshua defeated Granbury 5-1 in Game 2 of their Class 5A Region 1 area round series. The Owls won 1-0 in Game 1 and completes the sweep to advance to the regional quarterfinals against Aledo.

Aledo beat Birdville in a one game series on Thursday to advance.

Amador, who is a Ouachita Baptist signee, also had one of Joshua’s 11 hits on offense. Landrie Durham went 3 for 3 and one RBI while Baylee Jones, Zaidyn Streeter and Kallie Connelly each had two hits.

Streeter led the game off with a double to center and Durham followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Streeter scored on an error to put Joshua up 1-0. The Owls had runners on first and second in the second inning, but Granbury pitcher Allie Dafoe got a grounder to third for the force out.

Connelly and Streeter led off the fifth with back-to-back singles. Connelly scored on a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0. The Owls went up 4-0 in the sixth inning when a second Granbury error scored two runs. The Pirates got one a half inning later when catcher Kamryn Williams hit an RBI double to right field.

Granbury had runners in scoring position, but Amador got a liner to second baseman Tori Bennett to end the threat. Durham led the seventh with a double and scored on an RBI double from Kylie White to make it 5-1. Amador retired the order to clinch the win. Outside of the fifth inning, the Pirates only had three base runners and never reached second.

Amador picked up her 24th win of the season. This is the deepest run of her career. Joshua lost in the first round in 2021 and 2023 and reached the area round in 2022 when she was a sophomore. Amador allowed three hits and struck out 13 in Game 1 on Wednesday. Joshua scored the only run in the fourth.

Joshua was third place in 8-5A while Granbury was fourth in 5-5A.

The Pirates beat FW South Hills in the first round for their first playoff series win since 2019. The Owls are headed to the regional quarterfinals for the first time since 2019 when they lost to Forney in Region 2.
