Walnut Grove softball wraps up undefeated district championship

EB Bobbitt hit Walnut Grove’s first cycle in program history as the Wildcats beat Frisco Memorial 16-2 on Monday. WGHS ends its district season as undefeated champions at 14-0 in 10-5A. This is the program’s first season.

Walnut Grove improved to 31-2 overall.

The Wildcats came into the week ranked #4 in both the GM Sports Media Class 5A DFW rankings and TGCA Class 5A state rankings. They extended their winning streak to 28 games and haven’t lost since Feb. 16.

They have outscored their last four teams 57-2.

Against Memorial, the Wildcats scored in six of seven innings. Alexa Arredondo went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and one double while Ella Berlage was 3 for 5 with a double and four runs scored. Bobbitt, a Missouri State commit, was 4 for 5 with four runs batted in and three runs scored.

Kailee James was 4 for 5 with five RBIs, one double, one homer and two runs scored.

Michigan State commit Lyndsey Hooker allowed one run on three hits in five innings. She struck out 12 batters and also went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Hooker improved her record to 14-1 this season.

Berlage and Arredondo drove in runs as WG led 2-0 in the first inning. The first two Memorial batters reached but Hooker retired the side. The Wildcats added three runs with two outs in the second. Hooker had an RBI single and James hit a two-run homer to center to make it 5-0. Hooker struck out the side in order.

Bobbit led off the third with a solo home run.

Natalie Gowan got Memorial on the board with a two-out RBI double.

James, Bobbitt and Arredondo all had RBI doubles in the fourth as the lead grew to 10-1. Bobbitt got an RBI single in the sixth to make it 11-1. Hooker and James had back-to-back RBI singles in the seventh. Bobbitt completed her cycle with a two-out RBI triple which was followed by an RBI single by Arredondo.
