Decatur names Ponder’s Stormi Snider as next volleyball coach

Decatur ISD approved the hiring of Stormi Snider as the next Eagles volleyball head coach on Monday. Snider replaces Catherine Foerster, who took over at new school Eagle Mountain High School in Fort Worth, which is set to open in August.

Snider spent the past nine seasons at Ponder and led the Lions to a 34-10 record and 14-0 district championship in 2023. The 34 wins were the most under Snider’s watch. The team, which was also in the Class 3A state rankings, went to the Region 2 final where they lost to Gunter in three sets.

Ponder beat Dallas Inspired Vision, Bells, Callisburg and Harmony during the postseason run. Overall, Snider led the Lions to three district titles (2019, 2022, 2023) and district runner-up three other times. In nine seasons, Snider posted a 213-126 record and 83-21 in district play.

Foerster spent the previous four seasons with Decatur, leading the program to two state titles. She has over 300 wins in her career that includes Hereford and North Zulch High Schools. Decatur went 23-17 in the fall and reached the 4A Region 1 quarterfinals where the Eagles lost to Glen Rose in four sets.

In four years with Decatur, Foerster had a 119-45 record and 44-0 in district play.

They were also 19-2 in the playoffs.

During that time, Decatur was one of the top teams in the state – in any class – winning two state championships. She made an immediate impact during her first season in 2020 as the Eagles beat Wimberley in the 4A championship. The team followed it up with back to back titles in 2021 after sweeping Celina.

Snider graduated from Fort Elliott HS where she was a two-time all-state player and then went on to star in College at West Texas A&M.
