Piper Mickenheim will enter her final season with the Argyle Eagles this fall with a weight lifted off her shoulders as she checked off a big goal on Wednesday night. Mickenheim, the 2025 defensive specialist/libero announced her commitment to continue her volleyball career at Tulane University.
On Instagram, Mickenheim said she was excited to announce her commitment to play Division 1 volleyball at Tulane. “Thank you to my club coaches, high school coaches and teammates for the support and most importantly my dad and mom for the love, belief and dedication that was carried throughout my recruiting journey and volleyball career. I also want to thank coach Jordana, coach Jalissa and coach Knuth for this huge opportunity. I couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter that the Lord has brought in my life. ROLL WAVE.”
Through three seasons with Argyle, Mickenheim has registered over 1,500 career digs with a career-high 937 digs as a sophomore in 2022. During that season, Mickenheim played in 146 sets and also averaged 6.4 digs per set. She averaged 19.5 digs per match and 39 aces. She would go on to be voted First Team All-District, be selected to two All-Area teams and be a two-time All-State selection. Mickenheim also shined on the club circuit with Excel National, which would finish first place at Fort Lauderdale.
Mickenheim was a 2023 USAV All NTR Star Libero.
During her freshman season with Argyle, she had 197 digs in 103 sets and 32 aces, and was all-district honorable mention. She was also a USAV All NTR Star in club as they came in first place in Tulsa. Last season, while batting injury, Mickenheim came back and ended with 490 digs and 51 aces in 114 sets played helping Argyle to a historic campaign. She was 7-5A First-Team as the Eagles won the district championship and reached the Class 5A Region 1 championship against Colleyville Heritage.
As a junior, Argyle reached the regional quarterfinals where its season ended against Heritage, which went on to win the Class 5A state title. The Eagles posted a 40-8 record in 2023 and are 103-37 in the past three seasons.
Mickenheim’s leadership role should take another step forward this fall as Argyle graduated four significant players: Sydney Payne, Camryn Hesier, Shaye Feely and Kat Holtman. However, according to last year’s roster the Eagles had nine players that saw action that weren’t seniors. In February, it was announced that District 7-5A will move to 6-5A during the upcoming realignment. Argyle will be joined with Heritage, Denton, Ryan, Grapevine, Birdville and Richland – a seven team district while losing Lake Dallas, which dropped to Class 4A.
