Mansfield Timberview knocks off Cedar Park, sets up champ final against Frisco Liberty

SAN ANTONIO – Led by a balanced offensive attack and a stiff defense, the Mansfield Timberview Wolves are now one win away from the ultimate goal after taking down two-time state champ Cedar Park 67-45 in a Class 5A state semifinal on Thursday from the Alamodome.

#1 Timberview will face defending champ #2 Frisco Liberty at 3 pm on Saturday.

The Wolves (40-1) are in their sixth state tournament, but first since 2020. A win on Saturday over Liberty (33-7) will be the program’s first championship since 2010. Liberty rolled past Richmond Randle in the first semifinal Thursday.

Kamryn Wilson led the way for the Wolves with a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. She added 3 assists. Brooklyn Terry added 13 points and 8 rebounds while Tamaiya Mims chipped in 11 points and 3 steals. Dani Milliner, Chrishawn Coleman and Emilee Jones each scored 8.

The biggest differences in the game came at the free throw line and on the boards.

Timberview went 18 of 22 at the stripe while Cedar Park was 3 of 8.

The Wolves, additionally, dominated the boards with a 51-29 advantage. Coleman and Jones each grabbed 7 rebounds.

Timberview led 15-9 after the first quarter and then held CP to four points in the second. The Wolves went into the intermission with a 34-13 lead. They outscored the Timberwolves 19-14 in the third.

Overall, CP was 17 of 55 from the field – 30.9 percent.

The Wolves D held Cedar Park to 2 of 10 in the second and 4 of 18 in the third.

The game was tied at 7 when Timberview scored the next five on two baskets by Maryaune Adeyeye and a free throw by Jones. Milliner hit a three as the Wolves went up six. Timberview scored the first 10 points of the second quarter as the lead grew to 25-9.

Mims drained a three and then hit two free throws for a 30-11 lead. Mims added another at the 2:32 mark of the second quarter that made it 34-13. Either team was able to score the rest of the half.

The Wolves added an 8-0 run in the third for their largest lead of the game at 42-15 after Jones hit a second chance basket with 4:13 left in the third. Jones, Wilson and Milliner and closed out the final two minutes of the period with scores as Timberview led by 26 at the end of three.

Timberview has won 37 straight games. Its only loss came in November against 2023 6A champ San Antonio, but the Wolves did manage to return the favor with a win over Clark just a week later.
