Oak Cliff Faith Family is one win away from a 3-peat after the Eagles beat Stafford 59-40 in the Class 3A state semifinals on Friday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The #1 Eagles will play in the state championship against Silsbee at 7 pm Saturday.
Faith Family is at the tournament for sixth straight season.
The Eagles won in their first appearance in 2019, didn’t play in 2020 due to COVID and lost to Argyle in the 2021 semifinals before winning back to back titles the past two years.
The program is in its final year in Class 4A before making the jump to 5A next season.
Faith Family ended the game 25 of 47 from the field (53%) and hit five three-pointers. The Eagles out-rebounded Stafford 29-21 and scored 22 points off 15 turnovers. Stafford shot 34% from the field and struggled from downtown – going 2 of 13 from deep.
Isaac Williams led Faith Family with 19 points on 9 of 14 shooting along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jazz Henderson added 13 points with three threes and five assists.
Faith Family started out fast – leading 20-8 after the first quarter and 33-18 at the break. The Eagles went 9 of 16 in the opening frame while Stafford was held to six shot attempts, making two. Faith had a 16-0 run. Stafford missed its final four shots and six of its final seven.
