DeSoto lineman, whose photo went viral on social media, commits to Syracuse

DeSoto 2025 offensive tackle Byron Washington announced his commitment to play football at Syracuse – he said on social media on Saturday.

Washington is listed at 6-8 and 380 pounds, according to 247Sports, who also rates the junior 3 stars and 133th among all 2025 players in Texas. Additionally he ranks 67th for OTs in the nation.

While DeSoto has won back to back state championships and Washington has played a vital part in the Eagles’ success, he went viral on Twitter in December. Dave Campbell Insider Matt Stepp tweeted out a photo of the football giant going against a Summer Creek defender during the Class 6A D2 championship.

You can see the gap in size between the two players as Washington is again – 6-8 and 380. while the Summer Creek player is Kaleb Walker, who on the team’s roster is listed at 6-3 and 210.

DeSoto capped the season off with a 74-14 victory over Summer Creek at AT&T Stadium. The Eagles finished with a perfect 16-0 record. The game set records as the Eagles scored the most points in a title game in the largest class. DeSoto won state in 2022 and went 14-2. The Eagles have won 23 straight games.

As for Washington, he had 13 total offers with others coming from Duke, Houston, Duke and Arizona State – most of them coming in January. The Orange is #41 for their 2025 recruitment class with six other commits. Washington is the only one so far from Texas with the others coming from the East Coast.
