Mansfield Timberview girls knock off Argyle for state tournament berth

The Wolves struggled in the first quarter after scoring only two points against Argyle, but Timberview went on to wear down the Eagles 44-35 in the Class 5A Region 1 championship on Saturday in Wichita Falls.

Timberview (39-1), #1 in the 5A state rankings, advances to the UIL state tournament for the first time since 2020. The Wolves will play Cedar Park in the state semifinals at 8:30 pm Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. They will look for their first state championship since 2010.

It’s their sixth trip overall.

Argyle ends the season 34-6.

The Eagles were ranked #12 in 5A.

Argyle led the lowing scoring first half 4-2 after one quarter and 11-10 at intermission. The Eagles only led by one at halftime despite owning the rebound edge 17-6 and grabbing 10 offensive boards.

Timberview led for the first time midway through the third on a three from Kamryn Wilson. Brooklyn Terry added another deep ball 90 seconds later and the Wolves were up 21-20 and never trailed again.

Chrishawn Coleman was named tournament MVP.

The Wolves beat Amarillo 55-52 in overtime on Friday.

Timberview controlled the fourth quarter and led 28-24. Coleman then scored nine of the next 11 points and the Wolves went up double digits at 39-28 with 1:31 left to play. Argyle got a three from Kennedy Hafer, who later added another bucket to pull the Eagles within six with 43 seconds on the clock.

The Wolves hit five of six from the charity stripe the rest of the game.

Coleman scored 13 points after going scoreless in the first half. Emilee Jones added 11. She was named to the all-tournament team. Wilson and Terry added eight points each. Wilson also made the tourney team.

Gabby Campbell led Argyle with 12 points. Campbell and Samantha Bacon both made the all-tourney team.
