Girls Basketball Playoff Round-up: Hillcrest snaps 15-year drought, Aledo routs Wyatt and more

Aledo 76, FW Wyatt 40

The Ladycats outscored Wyatt 26-3 in the first quarter on their way to a convincing 36-point win during a 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. Aledo (29-9) finished second in 5-5A while Wyatt was third in 6-5A.

Aledo will face 5A #1 Mansfield Timberview 35-1 in the area round later this week.

Kinley Elms led all scorers with 23 points for Aledo. Brooklyn Dempsey added 13 followed by Elizabeth Griffin’s 11 and Natalie Anderson’s 10. The Ladycats led 43-14 at halftime and 54-31 after three.

Dallas Hillcrest 57, North Mesquite 23

Senior guard Emma Yurich scored 20 of her 26 points in the first half to help the Panthers to a dominating win over North Mesquite in a 5A Region 2 bi-district game on Monday.

Hillcrest (23-8) secured its first playoff win since 2009.

Brewer 90, FW Southwest 14

Chania Price, who signed her letter of intent to play at UNT, outscored the Raiders as the Bears won a 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. Price scored 23 points.

Brewer, #15 in the 5A state rankings, is 29-4 and has won 10 straight.

The Bears will face Colleyville Heritage in the second round. CHHS knocked off Brewer last year in the regional quarterfinals.

Crowley 54, Keller Central 38

The Eagles used a 9-0 run to pull away from the Chargers in a 6A Region bi-district game on Monday. Crowley is 27-6 and #12 in the 6A state rankings – with 11 straight wins.

It was Central’s first playoff appearance since 2007.

Valerie Guerrero’s bucket cut the lead to 22-17 with one minute left in the second quarter. Crowley scored the last four to go into the break up 26-17. The Eagles then led 42-29 after three.

LD Bell 45, Fossil Ridge 43

Ridge missed the potential game-winning three as time expired to escape a win over the Panthers during a 6A Region bi-district game on Monday. Bell, #25 in the 6A state rankings, improves to 30-4.

Bell got two threes from Hannah Due and Katie Tietjen to give the Blue Raiders a 43-35 lead with 2:46 to play. A bucket by Adrianna Robles and three-point play from Avy Reed got Ridge within 43-40 with 1:40 on the clock.

Madi Capers scored 10 points for Bell as the Raiders led 22-16 at intermission.

Bell also led 32-31 after three.

Hebron 66, Prosper 42

The Hawks, #2 in the 6A state rankings, held Prosper to 19 points in the second half to beat the Eagles in a 6A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. Hebron improved its record to 32-2.

The two teams were tied at 17 after the first quarter.

Prosper star Kendall Mosley hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the opening period.

Jordan Thomas, Paris Bradley and Micah Cooper paced Hebron in the second half and the Hawks led 30-23 at the intermission. Hebron began to pull away while leading 39-27 in the third and later led 53-37 at the end of the quarter.

Timberview 66, Lake Dallas 32

Lake Dallas had a lead over the top 5A team in the state – 17-16 after the first quarter before the Wolves pulled away in a 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. Tview improved its record to an impressive 35-1 and extended its winning streak to 32 games.

Tamaiya Mims had 10 points and Emilee Jones added seven in the first half as the Wolves led 28-17.

Tview outscored the Falcons in the second 12-0.

Allen 57, Coppell 49

Allen trailed 3-0 in the opening minutes before going on a 21-6 run as the Eagles knocked off the Cowgirls in a 6A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. Allen, #3 out of 5-6A, moves to 26-9 on the season.

Coppell, #2 in 6-6A, ends at 23-15.

Sjye Pepp hit a mid-range jumper and Simone Richomnd and Abigail Archey followed with a layup and three to give Allen a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Allen’s biggest lead in the first half was 15 before Coppell went on a 7-0 run and pulled within 26-20 at halftime.

Coppell trimmed it to five in the third before Allen went back up 42-28.

Colleyville Heritage 52, Midlothian Heritage 33

CHHS had a 29-point swing to down the Jaguars in a 5A Region 1 bi-district game on Monday. The Panthers improved to 22-10 and finished third in 7-5A. MHHS was #2 in 8-5A and ends 25-11.

The Jaguars led 24-14 at the intermission.

But the Panthers defense held MHHS to just nine points in the second half while the offense scored 38.

McKinney North 50, Forney 31

The 8th ranked team in 5A, North got good games from its top two players as the Bulldogs knocked off the Jackrabbits in a 5A Region 2 bi-district game. North improved to 27-10 on the season.

Ciara Harris posted 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists.

Kaelyn Hamilton chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a staggering 13 steals.
