Big night from Decatur junior pushes Eagles past Glen Rose, into boys regional tournament

Javen Colbert has been on fire during the playoffs for the Decatur Eagles.

He continued to stay hot on Monday night as his 34 points helped the team past Glen Rose 71-56 during a Class 4A Region 1 quarterfinal game at Weatherford HS. Decatur advances to the regional tournament where the Eagles will play at 8 pm Friday from Lubbock Christian against the winner of Amarillo West Plans and Canyon.

Colbert scored seven points in the first quarter.

Decatur led 9-7 after one following a steal and finish from Colbert.

He had 41 points in the area round win over Lubbock Estacado last Friday.

After a couple ties, Colbert continued his hot hand with three straight three points to give Decatur a 20-16 edge with 3:35 left in the second quarter. Another long ball beat the buzzer and the Eagles were on top 27-19 at intermission. Colbert had 16 in the first half and 18 in the second half.

Two more treys from Colbert gave Decatur its largest lead at 42-28 with three minutes in the third. The Eagles also led 48-34 and 50-36 at the end of the period. Colbert posted an assist to Chase Berg, who beat the buzzer with a layup.

The lead continued to grow for Decatur in the fourth.

It was 56-38 on Colbert’s free throws with 5:15 to play.

It was 58-38 one minute later.

Brayden Shook’s three-pointer made it 61-41 with three minutes to go.
