Ayden Ames is having herself a great week.
On Monday, the Prosper volleyball star was named Gatorade Texas Player Of The Year. On Tuesday, Ames walked into the high school gym and was surprised with the national award by family, coaches, high school teammates and future college teammates.
Ames was handed the trophy by the previous two winners – Nebraska outside hitter Harper Murray and future college teammate Texas setter Averi Carlson, who starred at Lucas Lovejoy.
During her final season with the Eagles, Ames put together one of the all-time greatest performances in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The Texas Longhorn bound star led Prosper to a 37-10 record and an appearance at the UIL state volleyball tournament in November. She finished with 575 kills, averaging 4.8 per set, while posting a .399 hitting percentage and .500 kill percentage. She also shined on defense, recording 165 blocks and 481 digs.
Ames’ other awards and accolades included Player Of The Year by GM Sports Media, Star Local Media, Dallas Morning News, Prep Volleyball and Texas Volleyball Insider. She was District 5-6A Co-MVP, an all-state selection, Max Preps and American Volleyball Coaches Association First-Team All-American and Big Daddy Media All State Defensive MVP.
Prosper fell short against Spring Grand Oaks 3-2 in the 6A state semifinals. Ames recorded a career-high 27 kills to go with a 0.404 hitting percentage, 15 digs, 4 block assists, 3 assists and 1 ace. She was named to the 6A state all-tournament team. Ames graduated from Prosper in December and is set to enroll at Texas soon.
