Legendary high school coach Todd Dodge comes out of retirement, will be the next coach at Lovejoy

It didn’t take long for Todd Dodge to come back to the football sideline.

Only two years after retiring from Austin Westlake, Dodge returns to become a head coach. According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Lucas Lovejoy will name the legendary coach Saturday morning.

He replaces Chris Ross, who left Lovejoy earlier in January for the college ranks at Stephen F. Austin.

Lovejoy has gone to the regional final three of the past four years.

Dodge’s resume is among the best all-time. He has won seven state championships while at Westlake and Southlake Carroll. Overall he has won 233 games in his career and has been to nine state title games. He won at Carroll in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Dodge won at Westlake in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

He also spent time at Cameron Yoe, Carrollton Newman Smith, Keller Fossil Ridge and Marble Falls.

During the 2020 season, he coached against his son Riley and Southlake Carroll and the Chaparrals came out on top with a 52-34 victory. It was the first time a father and son coached against each other in a state championship. While at Carroll, Riley was the starting quarterback during the 2006 title run.

Lovejoy went 12-2 last season before falling to South Oak Cliff in the regional final.
