Chisholm Trail names Ricklan Holmes next head football coach

After eight seasons, the Chisholm Trail Rangers have a new head football coach.

Eagle-Mountain-Saginaw ISD named Ricklan Holmes head coach on Thursday, replacing Byron Bode, who resigned in November – according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Bode had been with the Rangers the past eight seasons.

The Rangers went 19-61 under Bode and haven’t made the playoffs all-time since starting football in 2012. CTHS went 1-9 overall and 0-7 in district this past season.

Holmes was an assistant coach at Hutto in 2023, per DCTF.

Prior to Hutto, Holmes was head coach at his alma mater Tyler HS for 11 years during which the Lions won 79 games and made four appearances in the regional semifinals – two trips to the state semis in 2012 and 2014.

Holmes played DB at Tyler and Oklahoma State before having stints in the NFL with the Browns and Patriots.

Chisholm Trail is headed back down to Class 5A during the 2024-26 realignment.

The Rangers’ new district will be announced on Feb. 1.
