Aubrey softball twins, who helped team to state tournament, commit to Texas Woman’s University

Mya and Tamia Cherry, who helped the Aubrey softball team to the UIL Class 4A state tournament last season, both committed on Sunday to Texas Woman’s University – which is only 12 miles from the high school. Aubrey posted a 34-8 record after falling to Corpus Christi Calallen 5-1 in the semifinals.

It was the team’s first state appearance since 2007.

Aubrey beat Van Alstyne 7-2 in the one game Class 4A Region 2 final.

During the semifinal game vs Calallen, the twin sisters combined for three of the team’s six hits.

Mya Cherry was 2 for 3 and drove in Aubrey’s only run.

Mya also pitched and stuck out seven batters in a complete game effort. She finished with a 17-3 record in the circle and posted a 1.67 ERA and 161 strikeouts. She threw two no-hitters and one perfect game and had a 0.996 fielding percentage while splitting time in the outfield. She was District 11-4A Pitcher Of the Year.

Tamia Cherry, who plays shortstop, batted 0.427 with six home runs and drove in 38 runs.

The 2025s join senior Brynlie Dunkin, who committed to TWU in July.
