TCU men’s basketball sets record in Hawaii tournament

The Horned Frogs improved to 9-1 this season after a record-breaking performance in the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii on Thursday. TCU beat Old Dominion 111-87 and will face Nevada on Friday.

TCU is the first team to score 100 points in the tournament’s 14-year history – and broke the previous high mark of 99 points set by Ohio in 2014.

After a close first half where TCU led 47-41, the Frogs scored 64 points in the second half.

Chuck O’Bannon Jr. led the Frogs with 25 points on 8 of 10 shooting, six three-pointers and 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Emanuel Miller chipped in 21 points on 7 of 9 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists. Jameer Nelson Jr. added 18 points and six dimes to go along with 11 of 13 shooting from the free throw line.

Nelson Jr., who transferred from Delaware, is the son of former NBA all star Jameer Nelson Sr., who had a stint with the Dallas Mavericks.

Duncanville’s Micah Peavy, the reigning Big 12 Player Of The Week, finished with seven points, four rebounds and two assists. He was honored after recording the third triple-double in program history last Saturday.

Denton Guyer’s JaKobe Coles had nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Justin Northwest grad Avery Anderson had nine points in 10 minutes off the bench.
