Granbury Pirates hire next head football coach

The Granbury Pirates announced on Monday the hiring of their next head football coach in Justin Northwest defensive coordinator Bobby Allison.

Allison had spent the past 10 seasons with the Northwest Texans, who a successful season and run to the Class 5 Division 1 regional semifinals.

Northwest went 10-3 overall and 6-2 in district.

It was the Texans’ best season since 2018.

Allison, who was also named boys athletic coordinator at Granbury, takes over for Sonny Galindo, who had served as interim head coach for the Pirates and led the team to a 3-7 record this season.

“I’d like to thank Dr. Jeremy Glenn and Granbury ISD Board of Trustees for this opportunity to become the head coach of the Granbury Pirates. I am so thankful and excited to come to Granbury and lead these great young men,” Allison told Granbury ISD. “I look forward to working with a tremendous staff and school district and being involved in this outstanding community.”

Allison brings over more than 20 years of experience.

He has stops in Odessa, Sharpstown, Levelland and San Angelo Central.

Northwest won three district titles while Allison was on staff and the Texans went 10-2 in 2016 – while winning a playoff game for the first time in program history. Allison was also assistant head coach this year under Bill Poe.

Granbury is among the larger 5A D1 schools in the state and will have a new district the next two years – which will be announced on Feb. 1, 2024.
